Gear 5
Geared to Golf operates on a 5 geared system. With a hockey reference:
Gear 1 House League/New to the Game
Gear 2 A/E
Gear 3 A
Gear 4 AA
Geared 5 would be AAA.
Gear 5 runs on an invite only level.
In Gear 5 program, we will focus on a more college golf team type atmosphere.
4 player max team practices
On course games, matches, stroke play etc.
Weekly workouts
TPI screening and evaluations
Trackman distance tracking with each club
Short game challenges
Minimal individual swing sessions
In person parent meetings
Tournament schedule and training help (if needed)
Healthy eating
Being invited to Gear 5 for us means, you as an athlete have above average ball striking, good short game technique, understand course management and have played in provincial or higher events.
Players in this group receive huge support from Geared to Golf in the way of Gear:
Ping Team Bag (Distributed each Year with name)
Team Clothing Package (Players need to represent and FootJoy makes this happen for them)
Callaway Gloves and Balls (Distributed monthly for prep and Tournament Play)
Equipment Programs (Better Fit equipment equals better results therefore Geared has worked closely with our team of manufacturers to provide full custom fits and Player Packages to keep costs as low as possible)
Discounted Clothing and Accessories through the shop at Lakeridge
With a 4 player max team, it gives the coach time to engage with each athlete in every practice. Just like a college team, the players must challenge each other to do better or be low man on the totem pole.
On course games, matches and tournament stroke play is the best way to simulate tournament play.
With so much time spent on swing lessons, short game lessons and learning to play tournaments, young athletes rarely have a good workout routine or even know how to workout. There will be scheduled workouts that are mandatory throughout the season.
Each athlete must perform a TPI screen at the beginning of every month to help assess problem areas and areas that have improved. They will get a detailed copy sent to their TPI app with digital workouts to match their weaknesses.
We will track each athlete's distances every month to give them a good idea of how far each club will carry. Will also allow them to see if they added yardage.
Short game challenges to add stress to routine situations.
Minimal individual swing sessions, as Gear 5 athletes already swing the club very well. There will definitely be individual sessions, but these athletes can not rely on swing change every week and expect to compete on big stages. (Winter is the only time for big changes at this level)
I would be more than happy to have in person progress reports upon request.
Most players in Gear 5 know what they need to be playing in. I can always help if not. It is very important to add rest to a schedule. Young athletes usually underestimate rest and don’t allow the body to heal in between stressful events.
If I get one young athlete to eat healthy, that's a win. Although it is hard to change eating habits, food and water are just as important as any club in the bag.
